My Blogs

Since 2002, I’ve been writing here about life, the universe, and everything. My interests include genealogy, history, and the arts. More recently, since July 2023 I’ve been writing about my experiences as a below-the-right-knee amputee.

Musical Thursday

“Shall we stay for the second half?”, I whispered into my friend Graeme’s ear as we stood in the queue for the bar at “High School Musical” tonight at the Capitol Theatre. “No, we’re staying”, he said, adding, “I figure if you’ve bought tickets for the Titanic, you should go down with it”. His comments sparked a big smile from the woman in front of us who was queuing with her daughter for an ice-cream….

Day At The Hospital

It’s been a day at the hospital, as I took a friend home, and then took him back. I don’t really wanna go into the details here, for obvious reasons, except to say I saw an awful lot of hospital interiors today. And I also saw an awful lot of people at the Accident and Emergency Department who I didn’t think looked all that sick. Yes, there was a car accident, and there was the…

Tuesday Tuesday

It’s been ages since I’ve written about anything “discarded” in my back lane. Quite frankly, there’s been nothing for ages. People don’t seem to have been throwing things out. And then on the way home tonight, I saw an amazing piece of “art”. I still don’t know what to make of it. Aside from work, the big highlight of the day was going to see a friend who is in hospital. After surgery, he’s doing…

Long Day

Gosh it was a long day. Two friends are in hospital (with cancer). A friend has gone overseas. I worked 12 hours today on a mostly un-newsworthy day. And in the midst of that, managed to cope with a fair bit of workplaces sickness. At the end of it all, I caught up for a chat and a drink with a couple of colleagues after work. Gosh it was a long day. Stockholm… memories…

Sunday Lunch

“It’s such a beautiful day, I’ll come your way”, I said to my friend MIchaela on the phone this morning when we chatted to confirm details for lunch. Although it’s great around Surry Hills, there’s nothing like a Bondi lunch at this time of year. The weather was warm, and there was a great breeze, and so we settled on lunch at the Bondi Tratt. Overlooking Bondi Beach, I got there a couple of minutes…

Diverse Saturday

The first stop on my “diverse Saturday” was the “Don’t Block The Internet Rally” at Town Hall. I use the interwebs a fair bit, both for professional and personal purposes. Don’t we all? And so I headed down to Town Hall where there was maybe 400-500 people, a lot of them being “the usual suspcets” when it comes to protests in that area. At one point as I walked through I was confronted with about…
