My Blogs

Since 2002, I’ve been writing here about life, the universe, and everything. My interests include genealogy, history, and the arts. More recently, since July 2023 I’ve been writing about my experiences as a below-the-right-knee amputee.

You’ll Never See Me Again

You’ll Never See Me Again

I came home from work a little bit early this afternoon. I figure I’ll be on the receiving end of a few work-related phone calls over the weekend – due to the heat and potential bushfire conditions – so I figured an early mark was in order. And so I’ve arrived home, stripped off (well, not completely), sat down with a glass of wine, and have decided to do my best to get my blog…

Late Night Thursday

It was an unexpectedly late night for me tonight. I didn’t expect to be out on Oxford Street at midnight, especially on a “school night”. But when a mate from Perth e-mailed last week telling me he would be in town for a wedding, and asking if I would like to catch up for a group dinner, I actually expected a fairly sedate early evening. Unlike most of my friends who drink like fish, he’s…

Wednesday

I’m in catch up mode – I went to the pub after work. That’s all, I think. Although I did think for a moment about what I was gonna do with my “stimulus package”. This is what I wrote on Tom’s Blog. I’m going to receive some money (because I’m actually up to date with my tax returns), so I’ve decided to spend it on something I think will actually do some good. For all…

But we’ve known each other for about 11 years (Mardi Gras 98), and we’ve maintained a good friendship after I was dumped. (I won’t beat around the bush…) And I have a pretty good diary system….

The Trees

The Trees

It was a regular kind of Monday, except I probably spent a little too much time after work thinking about work. Grr. On a positive note, I had a great online chat with my mate Paul who lives in London. For every negative, there has to be a positive! I also had a lovely time this afternoon sitting outside on the balcony listening to the birds in the trees outside my apartment. That was good…

Chinese New Year Parade

Chinese New Year Parade

To be honest, I didn’t really enjoy the first Chinese New Year Twilight Parade in Sydney, although I’ve enjoyed the parades previously. It all seemed like it was just the daytime parade at night, as opposed to being a twilight parade. And by that I mean a parade which made the “most” of the evening and the capacity for lights to bring a parade to “life”. And it wasn’t helped by the fact that it…
